IT’S THE OFFICE MEMO YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS!

WINNER: Best Cabaret, 2014 Melbourne Fringe Awards
NOMINATED: Best Writing & Best Original Songs, 2014 Green Room Awards

HOLD THE PHONE! With five sold-out Melbourne seasons, a Fringe award, two Green Room nominations, and a spot on the 2015 VCE Drama Playlist in its top drawer, Reception: The Musical is coming to Wagga Wagga on Sunday 6 March.

Reception: The Musical tells the story of a receptionist who finds joy in the manic world of customer service, stationery orders and thinking on her swivel chair. This award-winning uplifting celebration of administration will be performed in Wagga Wagga at the Basement Theatre as part of the School of Arts’ 2016 program.

“Witty and winning cabaret… brilliant…hilarious… striking” – Theatre Press

“Captivating. Everyone who works in an office should see this show”  – Weekly Review

Written and performed by award-winning writer/performer Bethany Simons (graduate of CSU Acting for Screen and Stage) and leading Melbourne pianist Peter de Jager, this fresh cabaret comedy features a toe-tapping original score of songs including My Name is Bethany (Not Stephanie), Do You Have Sticky Tape, I Can’t Help But Help, and They Ring My Bell.

Inspired by true stories from behind the front desk, Reception: The Musical is a must-see for office workers and theatre lovers. Audiences are invited to join the cast for an ‘office party’ after the show – enjoy a lamington, put a post-it note on the memo board and share your own admin stories.

Writer/performers Simons and de Jager met at a Melbourne music academy where Peter was studying classical piano and Bethany was the receptionist. After discovering a mutual love for show-tunes, they started writing Reception: The Musical during their lunch breaks.

Since graduating from CSU in 2007, Simons’ has toured extensively throughout Australia, been nominated for two Green Room Awards and received the RAVE Touring Award for outstanding contribution to regional arts and culture. She recently worked with the School of Arts, directing their recent production of I Love a Piano in December 2015. Peter de Jager is one of Australia’s finest young musicians, acclaimed for his virtuosity as a pianist, harpsichordist and composer.

Written and Performed by Bethany Simons and Peter de Jager.

Directed by David Wicks, Choreographed & Assistant Directed by Joseph Simons.
