The Calendar Girls have landed in Wagga.

Stepping out of a Rex plane at Wagga Airport on Wednesday 18th September were the elegant cast members of the forthcoming production of Calendar Girls.

Presented by the Pavilion Boutique Hotel and Apartments, the Wagga SoACT production will run for eight performances from October 3 to October 13 in the Basement Theatre. Under the skilled direction of Irene Robson, a strong cast of local actors are bringing to life the story of a group of women trying to raise money for the cancer unit at their local hospital. Their calendar project attracts widespread attention in a story of laughs and fine entertainment.

The focus of the play has attracted the interest of local organisations with the Cancer Council using the opening performance on Thursday 3 October as a benefit night, and the local Breast Cancer Council buying the second Thursday performance on October 10. Other performances will be on Friday 4 October at 8 pm, Saturday 5 October at 3 pm and 8 pm, and Sunday 6 October at 3pm; with evening performances in the second week on Thursday and Friday October 10 and all, and the final chance to meet the Calendar Girls on Sunday 13 October at 3pm.

Coming SoACT Productions

Planning is already on track for our final two major productions of the year.

Auditions were held on June 15 and 16 for the August Month of Sundays’ show, Hay Fever, sponsored by the Rules Club Wagga Wagga. The cast will be announced soon – watch this space!

Fay Walters will direct this popular Noel Coward comedy for performances on Sunday afternoons, August 4, 11, 18 and 25 in the Basement Theatre.

Then, in a forerunner to our October production, director Irene Robson, will be held a Calendar Girls play reading on 18 June at 7 pm in the Basement Theatre.

Calendar Girls is scheduled for performances from October 3 to 6 and October 10 to 13.

Calendar Girls – Show Date Change

The production of Calendar Girls which was scheduled for April in the Basement Theatre has been postponed until October because the casting of nine women and four men proved more complex than we originally thought.

It will now become our last production for 2013 and will play in the Basement from October 3 to 13.

In the meantime, subject to approval by the committee, we are planning to stage Love Letters by A R Gurney in the slot left vacant by this postponement – April 11-14 and April 18-21.

Love Letters traces the lifelong correspondence of the staid, dutiful lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and the lively, unstable artist Melissa Gardner. The story of their bittersweet relationship unfolds from what is written – and what is left unsaid – in their letters.

A smash hit both on and off Broadway, Love Letters captures Andy and Melissa with a precision of detail and depth of feeling that only Gurney can command.

Some of the reviews included:

“Exhilarating, funny and moving” – The Wall Street Journal

“Delightful … entertaining … satisfying … The most charming play to date of a charming writer” – New York Observer

“A mini epic … Dialogue this fine can speak for itself” – USA Today
