The production of Calendar Girls which was scheduled for April in the Basement Theatre has been postponed until October because the casting of nine women and four men proved more complex than we originally thought.
It will now become our last production for 2013 and will play in the Basement from October 3 to 13.
In the meantime, subject to approval by the committee, we are planning to stage Love Letters by A R Gurney in the slot left vacant by this postponement – April 11-14 and April 18-21.
Love Letters traces the lifelong correspondence of the staid, dutiful lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and the lively, unstable artist Melissa Gardner. The story of their bittersweet relationship unfolds from what is written – and what is left unsaid – in their letters.
A smash hit both on and off Broadway, Love Letters captures Andy and Melissa with a precision of detail and depth of feeling that only Gurney can command.
Some of the reviews included:
“Exhilarating, funny and moving” – The Wall Street Journal
“Delightful … entertaining … satisfying … The most charming play to date of a charming writer” – New York Observer
“A mini epic … Dialogue this fine can speak for itself” – USA Today
