Last night, the final showing of the 2013 10 x Ten Theatre Gold Playfest was carried out at the Civic Theatre as part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations. Many SOACT members past and present were on hand to witness ten great performances.
In the audience were some of the original cast and crew members of the very first SOACT performance in the Civic Theatre in June 1963 – the play TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON – in particular, Dennis and Louise Blackett, Bob and Nancy Blacklow, Ida Buckley, Errol Fielder and Mitsui Stockley who was the Japanese coach for the production. Di Alexander and Alex McDonald who were involved with the theatre club on that opening night back in ’63 were also there.
The 10 x ten format has been a popular component of the annual SOACT offerings in recent years, and has been an excellent way to show the considerable breadth of talent that exist in the region for all facets of putting on shows – writers, directors, actors and crew.
A job well done by all concerned.
