The final major production by the Wagga School of Arts for 2016 will be their staging of April in Paris by John Godber. Scobell’s Plumbing presents April in Paris, a comedy featuring a couple disenchanted with their life.
The characters of Al and Bet are easy to warm to during their performance and many patrons will certainly identify in some ways to their story as it unfolds. Tony Trench and Jo Darby play the married couple who, through the luck of a competition win, make their way to Paris for a romantic break. This trip is their first adventure abroad, during which they learn more about themselves than the sights of Paris
.
The play is well written by John Godber and offers the actors enormous scope and challenges to bring this comedy to life. It gained a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Comedy of the Year and has previously enjoyed success in the West End.
When Bet wins a romantic night in the city of love, her husband Al wonders who she will take along. Before much time passes they are both up to their necks in culture, croissants and champagne, accompanied by the bright lights of Paris.
Director Fay Walters said many a good laugh is guaranteed as this hilarious romantic adventure unfolds. “It is a great comedy featuring two highly acclaimed actors,” she said. Fay also is excited by the news that up-and-coming local artist Doug Porritt will exhibit several of his paintings at the Basement Theatre during the run of the show.
